Cayden got her very first progress report today. I must say my little girl kicks ass. There is not a single "N" on there (needs improving). Some of the things were:
Recognizes A-Z uppercase and lowercase: yes all of them!
Understands number concepts
Sorts objects into categories
Begins to write name - she's been writing her name since she was a little over 3!
Counts to 39 (I've actually heard her count higher but I guess during the test she didn't)
The list goes on and on with categories Language Arts, Math, Science, Fine Motor, Art/Music, Gross Motor, and Social Skills. The only place I can see where she needs help (even if she didn't get an "N") is number recognition. Out of 1-12 she only recognizes 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,11. There was a little note on the bottom that said "Cayden is a pleasure to have in class! She did a great job adjusting to our setting. She is making very good friends and doing great academically!"

15 months well visit
Keenan had his 15 month well visit today. He got four shots poor thing. He is such a big boy weighing in at 27 lbs 4 oz, and is 32 1/2 inches tall. He was in the 75-90% for both. He passed all the developmental questions with flying colors.
Can he stand without assistance - of course
Can he walk with assistance - yes, he was running around the room at that moment
Does he say Momma and Dadda? - yes he does
Does he say anything else? yes about 10 other words
Can he say a 2 word sentence? yes he says "Bye bye Dada" and "Bye Bye Sister"
Does he sleep all night? - yep from 7:30pm to 7am
Can he play pat a cake? - yes
He'll be going for blood work next week to run both a food allergy panel and seasonal allergy panel. We asked for the food allergies because he hasn't been able to have dairy since he was 3 months old. He still throws it up. He had eggs 3x's and got a bad diaper rash each time. She asked if anyone had spring allergies. Cayden does. She's on a prescription in the spring because she gets allergic conjunctivitis and it's awful. She said she wanted to have him checked for that too since spring allergies are so bad.

So mad at the pediatrician!
I am so aggravated right now. Friday night Keenan seemed fine and went to bed at his usual time. At 1 am he woke up screaming like crazy. He didn't calm down after a few minutes so I went in. He never wakes at night so it was really unusual. At 3:30 am he finally calmed down. I tried everything. I gave him a snack, I gave him a drink, I put him in our bed, I put him back in his bed. Nothing was helping him. Finally he was so exhausted from his crying spell that I rocked him to sleep. I knew something was off because I'm pretty sure I haven't ever rocked him to sleep since he's been born.
When he woke up Saturday morning his eye was a bit bloodshot and had a tiny bit of gunk. I called the pediatrician because a) I wanted his ears checked out after his night screaming spell, b) I wanted his eye checked to see if it was pink eye, c) we were driving 1.5 hrs to a birthday party and I wanted to be sure he didn't have anything contagious. So off to the Dr's office we went. The doctor checked his ears and sure enough his one ear was really horrible. Poor thing. She prescribed amoxicillan for that. Then she checked his eye and said it wasn't pink eye. She also said if it was on it's way to being pink eye the antibiotic would clear it before it even got to become pink eye. So since he wasn't contagious and was in good spirits we filled his prescription for his ear, gave him a dose, and off we went (so sorry Wendy!). At the party his eye started looking worse and worse and he was getting fussy so we ended up leaving. It was really bugging me because I would have bet anything that he had pink eye but hey I'm not a doctor. I had to assume the doc knew what she was talking about.
By 7pm his eye looked like this (excuse the bad pic - I used my cell phone to take them so I could send it to Eric who was working).

He was crying and swatting at it. It was so red and swollen. It also looked like he had a pocket of fluid bulging underneath. I called the pediatricians "emergency" line and left a message. 20 minutes later they still hasn't called me back (wow was I pissed at this point) so I took him to the E.R. After a 45 minute wait they took us in and put us through swiftly to express care. It was so bad they put special dye in it and use a light to take a look and make sure he didn't have a scratch in there or anything. It was just a horrible case of pink eye. They prescribed him eye drops that he has to take 4x's a day for 7 days. I'm just so angry at my pediatrician. Mad for her saying it wasn't pink eye, mad that they NEVER called me back from my message, mad that I had to spend $50 to go to E.R. when I just spent $20 at the Dr's office that morning! His eye is much better this morning but still looking pretty nasty.

Are you smarter than a preschooler?
Forget the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader". Keenan's playing a new game titled "Are you smarter than a preschooler?" Cayden is playing her leapfrog clickstart. To do this she has to sit on the arm of the sofa so that Keenan can't get to it. So she's playing away and Keenan is watching her. He's trying to reach the computer with no success. What does he do? He gets a grin and runs over to the T.V. and shuts it off. Cayden starts freaking out and puts her computer down to run over and turn the t.v. back on. Keenan goes right over and starts laughing and banging on the computer. She runs back and grabs the computer from him, starts playing, and he runs right back to the t.v. Each time she goes to turn it back on she leaves her computer unattended which is exactly what he wants. I'm just laughing my ass off here that he is outsmarting her. She still hasn't realized the solution is to bring the keyboard with her when she goes back to the t.v. This is quite entertaining!

Backwards is the way to go!
Apparently it is according to my son. I know Keenan has always been difficult but now it seems he enjoys doing difficult tasks as well. If it's not climbing on top of the train table to stand on it and look at us with a grin, or try to get on top of the toy box it's something else. But this new trick has us baffled and it's been ongoing for 2 weeks.
He has decided that walking backwards is silly and fun. He'll get this grin on his face, turn around and walk backwards. Not only is he remarkably good at it he can go really long distances. I have never seen a child do this so young. Heck Cayden didn't even walk until she was 14.5 months so she surely wasn't about to walk backwards at that point. I've been asking around and it seems anyone else with a 14 mth old assures me their child is not doing this. Guess he's going to be quirky. I'll have to video it when I get a chance.
